Hemkund Sahib (also named as Hemkunt Sahib), is located in Himalayas at Hemkund Parbat (rock) on Hemkund Lake, the "lake of ice" roofed by "seven peaks" on all sides with each peak decorated by a Nishan Sahib on their cliff. It is in Chamoli district of Uttrakhand state of India at the elvetion of 15200 ft. Hemkund is a Sanskrit word copied and derived from Hem meaning Snow and Kund meaning Pond.
Hemkund is out-of-the-way between October and April because of snow bound treks and glaciers. Sikh devotees arrive at their destination in May and set to job to repair the damage to the path over the wintry weather, which custom is called kar seva ("work service"), an idea which forms a significant theory of the Sikh devotion.
The launch point for Hemkund Sahib is the town of Govindghat about 275 kilometres (171 mi) from Rishikesh. The 13 kilometres (8.1 mi) tramp is the length of a reasonably well maintained passageway to the town of Ghangaria (also named as Govinddham). This trail can be roofed either by foot or by colt (Horses) and a Gurudwara here gives protection to devotees. Furthermore there are some hotels and camps ground with tents and mattresses. A 1,100-metre (3,600 ft) climb on a 6-kilometre (3.7 mi) of stone covered trek leads Hemkund. All night stay is not authorized at Hemkund Sahib and that’s why it is compulsory to depart by 2 PM to make it reverse to Govindghat by twilight.
New structure and manufacturing of the current gurudwara was taken place in the mid of-1960s, after Major General Harkirat Singh, Engineer-in-Chief, Indian Army made a trip to the gurudwara. Major General Harkirat Singh appointed an Architect Siali to head the architecture and development attempt. Afterwards, Architect Siali luddu completed annual trips to Hemkunt Sahib and prearranged and supervised complex development.
Hemkund Sahib gurudwara is also famed by the name of the Gurudwara Sri Hemkunt Sahib Ji. It is the place where all the sikh devotion and devotee site in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand, India. This gurudwara is dedicated to sikh guru gobind singh ji. The guru was the tenth guru of the Sikh and finds recall in Dasam Granth, a work supposed to be dictated by him. This place is surrounded by seven mount peaks every painted throughout a Nishan Sahib on its cliff, the altitude of holly place is approx 4,632 meters.
